Prepare a catalogue that answers questions

For every product, gather its name, photographs, price, variants and the information needed to choose it. Clothing may need measurements; furniture needs dimensions and materials. Do not publish variants your team cannot identify later in an order.

Choose a stock rule: who updates availability and which system is the main record? If you also sell in person, decide how to avoid promising the same item to several customers.

Clarify payments and delivery before design

Check whether your chosen payment provider supports your company’s country, account and store platform. A method you have seen on another international shop may not be available to your business.

Write down delivery zones, prices, exceptions and who contacts customers about incomplete addresses. Those decisions shape checkout fields and the information shown alongside products. Establish them early enough to test the actual buying journey.

Assign the work after an order arrives

Every order needs an owner. Decide who confirms availability, prepares the parcel, updates its status and answers questions. An email notification is helpful, but it does not replace a process your team can track.

You can start with a simple setup. If staff copy the same data into several places, note which connections would help. Automating an unclear process can spread the same mistake more quickly.

Test unsuccessful orders too

Shopify’s official launch checklist includes testing the store before release. Whatever platform you choose, we suggest checking cases outside the standard journey:

  • A mobile order with a product variant.
  • An incomplete address or unsupported delivery location.
  • A failed payment followed by another attempt.
  • An item that has gone out of stock.
  • A cancellation and a status correction by your team.

Use the provider’s test mode where available and document any tests that involve real payments separately.

Launch a process you can support

Before advertising, have the responsible people review contact information and store terms. Assign a colleague to handle the first orders and establish a way to report errors.

Online store development should cover the complete journey. If volume justifies it, enquiry and CRM workflows can be connected later. You do not need to automate everything to launch a workable store.
