Define exactly what is missing

Search for the business name and location, then record what appears. Look for an old profile, an incorrect address or a similarly named business. Do not immediately create another profile; first establish whether one already exists.

Separately, search for the service without your company name. Appearing for a branded search does not mean you will rank similarly for a general query. Record the wording and the location you are searching from so you do not compare different contexts.

Check the basic business information

Google recommends complete, accurate information in Business Profile. Check ownership access, verification status and any requests shown in the account. Then review the category, phone number, address or service area and opening hours.

Use the business’s real information. If you only receive customers by appointment or work at their premises, check the profile rules for that situation before displaying an address.

Understand what you can influence

Google describes local results in terms of relevance, distance and prominence. Distance from the person searching is not a setting an agency can adjust. Paying for a campaign does not buy a better organic position in Maps either.

You can improve accurate information, service explanations and customer experience. Request genuine feedback without writing reviews on customers’ behalf. Useful photographs show what to expect and how to recognize your location.

Check the website destination too

Open the profile’s website link on a phone. Does it reach a working page? Do the contact details match? For different services, the website should explain the offer and service area clearly, rather than repeating the same text across many location pages.

The Maps profile and results for website pages are distinct. If a page is missing from search, its publication, accessibility and indexing need a separate investigation.

Make a list of verifiable corrections

Record changes and review the interactions available in your account alongside actual enquiries. Avoid “number one” promises: Google states that you cannot request or pay for better local ranking.

If the destination is unclear, start with website structure. If you also want paid promotion, discuss Google Ads as a separate activity with its own objectives and budget.
